I am a native of Chicago Heights, Illinois, however I moved to the great area of Hampton roads in 1989 where I attended Denbigh High School located in Newport News, VA. After graduating in 1992, I enrolled at Norfolk State University with the intentions of becoming a lawyer however after a brush with death and a lack of support from my then Dean I sought out to find a discipline that could offer more and assist me in meeting my educational goals of securing my degree. I had no idea at that time by entering the halls of Ethelyn R. Strong’s School of Social Work I would actualize my life’s purpose by becoming a Social Worker.
Continuing my journey I left my position as a substance abuse counselor with Newport News’s city farm to work as an intensive foster care and child protective services in home therapist with York and Poquoson’s Department of Social Services. After three years and securing licensure I accepted a position with Zieders as a Family Advocacy Program (US Navy) where she assisted family members who had been identified as victims of abuse.
Enjoying the interactions with servicemen and women I took an opportunity to work Fort Eustis’s Behavioral Health department. My daily responsibilities while working at Fort Eustis were to provide servicemen and women with individual therapeutic support and techniques to adjust to the effects of war. After 10 years of working alongside America’s fighting forces I knew it was time for me to forge ahead with owning and operating under my own steam and in 2018 I did just that.
In the last two years I believed there was a larger audience which needed to be reached but struggled to find the vehicle to do so, until the introduction of a global pandemic. Realizing that for the first time in my life time everyone globally had a unique experience of feeling of being overwhelmed, a general sense of fear, anxiety, and growing depression. Understanding if people were to come out of such an experience they would need to engage their life with purpose hereby creating balance. So, I birthed Ing Life 4 Tomorrow as the vehicle of change which will help those who seek assistance with relearning how to cultivate the life they want to live in.
